also don't assume, just because you can't identify someone's disability doesn't mean it isn't there...for instance my hands, arms and legs work just fine, however my wrists and one of my knees do not; for me to stand and hold onto anything during a bus ride, i have to pay for it up to a week afterward... i also don't sit in the front either to avoid these sorts of misunderstanding...on a side note what is so hard about the concept of "enter the front door, leave by the side door"...this is the only city I've been to where people don't get it. its written on the windows ...do it
so 30 million(rofl) for light commuter rail sounds like a great possibility in the near future with these kind of math and accountability skills, throw in a new harbour crossing (this time a tunnel) and a ferry from no where that no one will be able to afford and a Hotel mega-plex nobody sees a real need for...the only thing that would make it perfect is if they hired Dexter Construction to over see it all, i mean why not? at this point Mayor Kelly(and others in this case) has proven to be either incompetent or willfully ignorant(with benefits)....I 'd like to say no one could be this stupid, but its possible, but that begs the questions about who the real fools are us or them?
I think the main, fundamental flaw of this city's bus system is that no one has the appetite to really consider public input. There are redundant routes leaving transit stations at practically the same time to arrive at the same place (an artifact of the old one-way transfer system). There are wait times at certain stops that wait for nothing (no connections). There are drivers who constantly leave their stops early and are otherwise rude because there are few consequences. There are several tweaks and changes that could be done to improve efficiencies...but because the decision makers don't ride the buses and because they are deaf from all the whining, they just give up. I recommend have an elected councilor dedicated to public transit who's job is to listen to the people and liaise with the transit authorities...not someone who works for them. Eventually, they should have a passenger's bill of rights. Then, finally, the riders will have a voice from someone who perhaps even rides transit and cares about what you and I think about transit. (For all you car owners out there...look at the bridge traffic now and look at where it will be in 5 years...improved transit is in your best interest too)
"Halifax police investigation into the robbery went nowhere and no charges were laid in relation to it." i am shocked the Halifax police were slacking when is has anything concerning the gay community -_-, i can't count the number of assaults I've witnessed only to have the police blatantly refuse to follow through with charges...well as long as we have the status quo...damn this city just keeps goin' in a downward spiral, time to move on i guess...
my goodness anything to move forward...barrington street looked on the way out when i arrived here in 2001...9 years later its couldn't be worse ...what was the city waiting for at the old nfb site?, another fire to burn down the brick facade?... sam the record man has been gone how many years?....and the granite brewery??? ...damn is this city is stuck, whats the hold up...is the former carsand mosher building going to empty for the next 1-2 decades...i'm all for measured progress, but give it 6mos to a year, not a decade!!! this is a tourist/student city, do you know how poorly it reflects upon when the main thoroughfare of the downtown core is a ghost town, who wants to stick around and invest in that...well i know one company starfish, who's pockets are they lining? if i see dexter construction anywhere near their properties the fix is in....i wish i wasn't such a debbie downer but dammit halifax you can be depressing, stubborn and your own worst emeny
