When Norma Lee MacLeod, who was nominated for a Gemini last year as "Best News Anchor" for her work on Nova Scotia's six o'clock news, goes on the air tonight, it will be her last Monday in the anchor chair. The veteran Jim Nunn is taking over "CBC News at Six" next Monday, Sept 24. CBC employees found out this morning in an email from new Maritimes TV director Andrew Cochran. An official announcement is due later this afternoon from CBC's PR peeps.
In his email, Cochran reminds his staff of another big change he's made since starting local TV's most important job August 7. "The appointment combines Jim Nunn with Peter Coade who last week was named CBC Meteorologist for the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick programs. This latest step puts two of Nova Scotia's best known and most trusted broadcasters together on the same program, focusing on Nova Scotia news and weather first, night after night."
Norma Lee is staying with the show to become its lead producer. "As Lead Producer for the program, Norma Lee MacLeod will be responsible for our new emphasis on in-depth coverage of the most important story of the day," says Cochran in the email. "This appointment is consistent with her desire to concentrate on producing in the next phase of her career with CBC." That working "next phase of her career" sounds ominous, but at least she didn't resign "to spend more time with my family."
