Beautiful City

I hope that there is someone out there on this last day of The Fringe combing this blog for a great show to end off with, because I can recommend one. “Beautiful City” by Saints Alive! Theatre Company is a moving musical powered by an amazing collection of young talent. It’s basically a Romeo and Juliet story set in a crumbling city that is being destroyed by warring factions. The basic black costumes and creative use of nesting boxes makes for a simplicity that is Fringe-perfect. The use of familiar tunes from blockbuster musicals makes it immediately accessible and enjoyable. And the diverse and powerful voices and the pure commitment to the characters make it a premiere theatre experience, and not at all in that “I have to say something nice, because they’re young” kind of way. I think that if this play had been scheduled for a couple more shows, it could have given the terrific “6 in Under 60” a run for the coveted “Fringe Hit” designation.

Don’t miss the last show at The Neptune Studio Theatre on September 9 at 7:45. $8
