The Gutter Twins

You can’t stay angry forever but you can get asphalt-dark or swampy. This is the tale former Screaming Tree vocalist (and Queens of the Stone Age and Isobel Campbell collaborator) Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli (Afghan Whig, Twilight Singers) tell in the bones of their first record together. Like a pair of broken-hearted Robb ie Robertsons on bad mescaline, the two share vocals and songwriting on 12 haunted blues missives---Dulli’s bloody-horizon-love-laments a fine complement to Lanegan’s century-old bourbon growl. “Idle Hands” leads with a chant that’d scare the devil himself and on “All Misery/Flowers,” the way they burn is a son of a bitch.
