American Gangster

Jay-Z’s Black Album and Kingdom Come fell short of what we’ve come to expect from the head of Def Jam. But those who started to doubt the talent of the emcee turned CEO need look no further than American Gangster. While the last albums lacked what Jay-Z brought to his debut Reasonable Doubt, this disc proves Sean Carter hasn’t lost his way. It’s obvious that the life of real American gangster Frank Lucas struck a chord, and helped revive Jay-Z’s missing magic. Doubters need look no further than tracks like “Roc Boys,” “Ignorant Shit” and “Fallin’” to see that Jay-Z has returned to form, and is again blazing from both barrels.
