Panic When You Find It
(Mint)
The Victoria group, which pivots on the duo Paul Pittman and Lucy Brain, have delivered a passionate, urgent and sophisticated pop record in Panic When you Find It. Indeed, one experiences passion and urgency in youth. The band seems to not only understand that, but harness the energy as well. These are songs about life lived when it’s suddenly clear there are consequences, expectations, responsibilities and disappointments bearing down on your desire to do what you want. The sophistication comes in the words — nothing overwrought or too detached. But it also comes in a big way from the playing and the arrangements, balanced and layered perfectly. The last tune, “Satellite,” unforgettably caps off an amazing 10 tracks.
