Talkin’ Honky Blues

Published September 18, 2003.Buck 65Talkin’ Honky Blues(Warner)Buck is back, that salty rural philosopher. Rappin’s an act, right? But you gotta sing what you know, and Buck is a wry observer. He positions himself as a cranky old small-town guy, cruising highways in a beat-up car (“Wicked And Weird”). That car’s got more soul than all the new crap they’re shoving at us these days. He admits he’s a lot like his old man in “House- boat Neighbours,” full of “beans and big ideas...what’s more important than roses and blue jays?” If Springsteen went hip-hop, he’d be Buck. —Bob Elliscategories: Canadian artist,ECMA nominee (2006)
