(Maverick)
“Even losers can get lucky sometimes,” sings Stacy Jones on “The Geeks Get the Girls,” American Hi-Fi’s first single from Hearts on Parade. The former drummer of Letters to Cleo and Veruca Salt stepped out from behind the kit to front the pop-punk outfit, scoring a major hit with 2001’s “Flavour of the Weak,” off The Art of Losing. However, the California-based band hasn’t been as lucky in recent years, failing to equal their early critical and commercial successes. While Hearts on Parade features a couple of semi-OK tracks, “Geeks” is a feeble attempt by the band to mimic its one-time hit. The remainder of the album is both painful and embarrassing to sit through – especially the vomitous second single “Hell Yeah!”
