In regards to the article written by Lis Van Berkel titled Where Goes the Neighborhood?
I have to say BRAVO! I absolutely loved this article! Not that I agreed with the entire written work, but I was very much intrigued by most. Being a North Ender all of my life, I am one of the "people" who have difficulty with the boundry lines of the North End, but am willing to let that go for this article.I must say that I am in total aggreance with the owner and operator of FRED ( ya know the salon that offers $100 haircuts and $5 coffees) GO FOR IT FRED! Be as upscale as you can be! Bring in the unaware consumer to what the North End ( or to me center city) has to offer! Regardless it is a beautiful and historic area of the city! bringing in "new " people with fresh ideas and fearless hopes is a wonderful addition to our area of the city! This being said , I also agree that housing prices need be somewhat scaled to whom live there now. Affordable housing is a must in all areas of the North to Center city. I do say I love the idea of bustling streets and shops open to the public to wander in and out of, and that this all would bring back the tourism that Gottigen street once was familiar with. Cafes, shops, art studios, what ever works! Fix it up! Make it worth coming back to!Also, i need to say again in support of the owner of FRED, let the coalition against poverty stop wasting money on spray paint for graffitti and DO put it towards helping the homeless! I could on for hours on this topic, but I shall end it by saying wonderful article! Would love to see some follow ups on this topic as well!BRAVO to the writer and to the North End!
Always a NORTH ENDER,Vickie
