"I think we've all always had these feelings about smashing the patriarchy, critical sex-positivity and frustrations with being treated differently, especially in certain scenes like music, because we're women," says Jess MacDonald (guitar). In January, MacDonald, Camila Salcedo (drums) and Grace Stratton (bass) created Glitterclit, a feminist-punk band inspired by riot grrls, Bikini Kill, Spray Paint and anyone interested in undermining social constructs of power. The heavy and raw tracks on its first release, Band Practice—including the incredible "Men Are Creepy"—are an assault against assault. "Screaming during our jams is definitely a liberating feeling," says Salcedo. Stratton adds: "I have fun wearing pink glitter and makeup while screaming about hating the patriarchy. Because of what I'm saying, my image becomes harder for the male gaze to consume." Look out for a split tape and tour with Nightbummerz.
