Your guide to Oyster Fest

All the deets you need to inform your festing/feasting

We wanted to give you a break down of how thing's are going to go at our first Halifax Oyster Fest.

Dress: It's fall. You’re on the Halifax Waterfront. Dress in layers! The event is rain or shine. If it's raining bust out the Hunters and a rain coat for ultimate comfiness. You'll be under our main tent most of the time anyway.

Main tent: The Halifax Oyster Festival grounds will feature a massive main tent which will house 12 Maritime oyster farmer booths and beverage producers. The oyster booths will have pro-shuckers shucking as fast as they can to serve you, the ticket holder.

Included in your ticket: A sample of Benjamin Bridge’s Nova 7 + all-you-can-eat oysters from all our 12 producer booths. Bonus: the Aquacutlure Association of Nova Scotia will be sampling local mussels and oysters. Pete’s Fine Foods will be sampling BBQ’ed and mignotte oysters as well. Eat it up.

How to: Make your way from farmer to farmer to taste as many oyster varieties as you can. If you can fit it all in, do it again.

Drinks: Buy drink tickets from the ticket booth before entering the main tent. Garrison Brewing Company, Gahan Halifax and Bulwark Cider will all be on site selling sample size 4oz pours. Benjamin Bridge will be on site with three varieties of Nova Scotia wine. Pair your oyster with a different sip each time.

Food: If you're hungry for something other than oysters, Taste of Nova Scotia will be on site selling seafood chowder crafted by chef Thomas Carey from NSCC's Culinary Institute. Our food truck friends from Tin Pan Alley will be selling flavour tossed frites. Both snacks will be under $5 and purchased with your food tickets found at the ticket booth.

Entertainment: Throwback classics from local DJs Young Hearts will provide the chill until things pick up an hour into your session for the first ever Nova Scotia Oyster Shucking Competition presented by Gahan House Halifax. Make your way to the main stage to catch Halifax restauranteurs and Canadian pros shuck for cash prizes and the big title. We're flying in Daniel Notkin, Canadian oyster guru and founder of Montreal Oyster Fest, to host the events. The afternoon session will feature local shuckers and the top three winners will move on to the evening competition. The evening session will feature professional shuckers from the east coast and across Canada.
