It's like a scene straight out of a romantic movie---on a last-minute trip to Paris, Pamela Duggan and Ryan Wells were walking along the Pont des Art bridge admiring all the padlocks that cover it as symbols of a couple's love when Ryan dropped down on one knee. To Pam's surprise, their own padlock had a ring attached. The two engineers dove into wedding planning with detail-orientated drive and decided what they really wanted was "something small, and very personal" that they could create a lot of little details for: letterpress invitations, jam favours made from berries Ryan's parents picked in Newfoundland, fabric boutonnieres and corsages, homemade salt water taffy and macarons and even a hand-painted cake topper and metal stamped fork set to cut the cake. The couple managed to do almost everything themselves, even fixing up and landscaping Pam's parents' home, where they wanted to get married. "It started out as a bit of wistful thinking of 'If only we could make it work,'" says Ryan, "to turning it over enough in our minds until it was 'Let's make it work." When it came right down to it, though, all the extra work was worth it. "We still keep hearing great things about our ceremony and how personal it was," he says. "A lot of people told us the day goes by so quickly---and it really was true. We kept reminding ourselves to just take it all in and not let it fly by."
