Gold Winner Common Roots Urban Farm
Silver Winner Hope Blooms North End Community Garden
Bronze Winner Bloomfield
The Common Roots Urban Farm outdid itself this year, filling the one-time demo site at Robie and Bell with lush garden plots lovingly cared for by Haligonians. It’s donated hundreds and hundreds of pounds of fresh produce to the Parker Street Food Bank, to boot. If you planted, weeded, watered or nibbled on a piece of this project—this award is partially yours. “Plants make everything: food, medicine, fibre, clean air and water,” says project coordinator Jayme Melrose. “I look forward to the day when there are productive landscapes everywhere, full of birds and people making food and art from the beauty we Haligonians cultivate.”
