A neighbourhood watering hole perfectly tucked away downtown, Tom’s Little Havana scores by keeping it simple. Looking just as it did when it opened over 15 years ago, with charmingly distressed decor and as bar’s owner Tom Wile lovingly calls it, “your grandmother’s wallpaper” the one-time cigar bar is the prime spot to while away the hours with a first date, old friend or even solo. “The people that you go with that make the experience, food and drinks are just the ancillary benefits to getting together,” he says, modestly summing up the bar’s greatness. Unsurprisingly, getting a seat at Tom’s can be tough, hence why Wile’s on the hunt for a second space on Quinpool, aiming to open the bar’s carbon copy. Until then, we’ll continue to bask in great drinks, service, atmosphere and company on Doyle Street.
