Little Whorehouse goes big

Dartmouth Players brings The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas to its tiny stage and makes it sing.

Yeehaw! Dartmouth Players have pulled it off again. They've brought a huge show to their tiny stage and made it sing. The raunchy, profanity-laced The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas might not seem like an obvious choice for community theatre, but the enthusiastic audience reaction says different. Miss Mona, the madam with a heart of gold, is played by Nicole Moore, a confident actor with a fantastic voice. Greg Alley plays the expletive-loving sheriff, in an award-worthy, high energy performance. The Chicken Ranch Girls are sassy and sexy. The testosterone-fuelled football players are adorable and the rest of the cast is undeniably talented. My only problem with the whole show is the unrealistic portrait it paints of prostitution. But hey, if you can disregard the play's outdated sexual politics, this show is well-done fun. --Kate Watson
