No place like home

Christa & Dave | Married August 3, 2012

When it comes to love, Dave Swenson is unstoppable. A fallen tree, a thunderstorm and a downpour may have been barriers to some, but not Dave---especially not when his proposal to Christa Freeborne was on the line. His Plan C found him kneeling on their bedroom floor, reading sweet nothings from a leather-bound book and found Christa, well, a little bit ecstatic. “I jumped up and down,” she says. “Screaming like a little girl to the point that the downstairs neighbours came up to make sure everything was alright.” In the end, home sweet home was probably the best place it could have happened. The couple’s very DIY wedding followed the same sentiment: intimate and relaxed. “Most importantly, we wanted our guests to feel at home,” says Christa of the big day in their Musquodoboit Harbour backyard, where they danced the night away in bare feet. Inspiration for the black, white and red affair struck while she watched adorable Audrey Heburn in Funny Face and handmade brooch bouquets, paper banners and boutonnieres helped complete the vintage vibes. By putting the little details first and embracing classic second-hand finds, Christa and Dave wound up with a wedding that was nothing short of timeless.
