The Halifax All-City Music Program

In public school, the next generation of performers develops skills.

If you've ever wondered how Nova Scotian musicians developed their skills, one answer is the All-City Music Program. Running for over 40 years, it supplements The Halifax school board's music programs by offering honour choirs, jazz band and string programs. To join, students audition. "Some people who went through the program are Janet Dunsworth of Symphony Nova Scotia and Juno winner Melanie Doane," says department head Sue Ellen Wilder. The program offers discounted instruments, the chance for underprivileged students to follow their passion and confidence.
