Last year the Grawood took the top spot in this hotly contested category; this year, the tables are turned. Saint Mary’s University Student Association President and Gorsebrook patron Zach Churchill says the bar’s success has to do with its popular weekly events. “We have a very popular open mic night on Wednesday nights,” he says, “and our Thursday pub night has been a tradition since 1974.” Its 13 television sets and warm, cozy atmosphere make the Gorsebrook a great place to watch the Huskies play football— whether it’s an away game or not. And then there are the chicken wings. “They’re in the top five in Halifax, I think,” says Churchill, “and they’re subsidized by the student association. We keep the students in mind.”
