PANOS gets dreamy

Well versed in improvised music, Panos Giannoulis tries his hand at songwriting and nails it.

Panos Giannoulis is certainly a familiar name, and face, in Halifax's music scene. He's exercised his well-honed musical chops with Their Majesties (formerly Porcelain Gods) and legendary jazz-man Jerry Granelli but recently took to challenging his songwriting and composing side in a project called PANOS, with Andrew and Seamus Erskine, Rebecca Zolkower and Andrew MacKelvie filling out his band. "What this project allows me to do is blend elements I've learned playing improvised music and rock music with all my musical influences, which are pretty all over the place," says Giannoulis. And the result is dreamy, to say the least: soothing, layered pop songs that promise good things to come. Giannoulis says hopefully a record will surface sometime in June. Until then see the real deal for yourself on Friday night, up close and personal.
