Rory MacDonald's Chalkworks takes the art form of chalk off of the sidewalk and onto the ceramic surface. His works explore the relationship between images over form. There is beautiful simplicity in his monochrome black semi-porcelain; the various black silhouette drawings showcase the gorgeous shapes of porcelain contained in a fixed position. MacDonald's erasure piece shows the temporary nature of using chalk with well-placed smudges of red, browns and yellow in interesting patterns and his solid-coloured porcelain pieces are striking. MacDonald's standout work includes his pieces that pay close attention to intricate detail. Take a stroll around the merry-go-round in the polychrome thrown semi-porcelain keeping an eye out for the animal drawings.
