Just when you thought Hollywood was going to break some rules and get all polyamorous, it cranks out another predictable, if R-rated, romcom. Two hotties---an “emotionally damaged” recruiter, Jamie (Mila Kunis), and “emotionally unavailable” GQ recruit, Dylan (Justin Timberlake)---become best buds who just want a li'l hanky-panky on the side, sans relationship. Complications ensue (kinda) when they start dating other people (and stop banging each other). Director Will Gluck (
Easy A) tries to poke fun at the movie’s romcom-ness with a couple self-referential nods, including one to the soundtrack, designed to replace a good script. There are a few great comedic moments, many of them thanks to Dylan’s sister (Jenna Elfman), and oral sex is given screen time and treated with complete normalcy---at least
that’s a step forward.
