Jazz

I was always curious about you but didn't dare to take the plunge until recently. I guess I was intimidated by your incredibly large repertoire and the elitism I falsely associated with it. You came into my life at a time when only a handful of rock or "alternative" (if the term still means anything) artists still manage to stand out and make my ears happy.

You are timeless in an era in which the "rise to stardom and fall to has-been status" cycle is merely a few months. Like the finest of wine, you age well and the familiar analog hiss of your earlier recordings is a safe refuge from all the autotuned garbage that record labels have been churning out for years already. You instantly bring me back to a time of suits, ties and fedora hats when I'm surrounded by laziness and vulgarity. You are understated and classy in a loud and trashy world. I take comfort in knowing that you are made of so many sub-genres that I don't have enough of this lifetime to hear all you have to offer and that my ears will never be bored.
