The day we got engaged is one I will never forget. My boyfriend and I were in Arizona on vacation and decided to drive to the Grand Canyon to do some sightseeing. Little did I know that he was holding an engagement ring in his cargo pocket for the entire 3 hour drive. We had been dating for almost four years, and I knew that we would be getting married, but I certainly didn’t expect him to pop the question on this trip. We found an amazing look-off tower at the Canyon and while I was busy rambling on about how the sights took my breath away, he was getting into position on one knee behind me. I turned around to see why he wasn’t joining in on my “oohs” and “ahhhs” and realized what was going on. It was so surreal that the whole world stopped for a few minutes while I squealed and exclaimed how shocked I was. What was truly amazing was that for such a busy tourist spot, we were all alone at this tower. We waited for someone to come along to get a few photos of us and then we continued on, with me crying throughout the day as I thought about how amazingly special my hunny was. We called our parents, who already knew because he had asked them prior to our departure four days before, and then we kept it as our little secret for the remainder of our trip until we were home and could tell people in person.
The Grand Canyon is a phenomenal place, and now it is just that much more special for us!
We are getting married in March in Mexico with some close friends and family by our side and then having a celebratory reception here in Halifax in April. I cannot wait to have the world stand still around us again...
