Best Video

Dog Day,"Happiness"

One of Halifax's best bands turned into cosmic warriors for this year's best video, performing in a kaleidoscopic dimension with ice-cream-cone microphones and scythes. "I just wanted to do something kaleidoscopic using some leftover drawings from the cover art," says Dog Day's Seth Smith. "I thought it would translate well to music video. Also I had a pretty crappy camera and wanted to explore green screening so I figured I'd go for that bad cable access look."

Smith is currently working on a new video, due out in April, which uses models. "Videos are really a great way to experiment and learn about film. They're so short so you can really jam-pack them and pump them out."

First runner-up: Joel Plaskett, "Through & Through & Through"
