10 Instagrammable places in Halifax

FOMO locations that show the city's fun side

With incredible Oceanside views and coastal hikes, you’ll probably end up taking photos mostly of food, yourself, and beer. And that’s okay.

Stillwell Beer Garden
Dress for success, because you’ll want a good shot under this beer garden’s picturesque twinkly lights. Since you're outside, the tone of the daylight (or nightlight) can add a whole other dimension to both your socializing and your photography. Keep this in mind as you strike a pose beside the wall graffiti, or keep the photo product-oriented with the well-designed beer bottles and Pinterest-styled chalk menu. Really, it's hard to go wrong no matter which way your phone is pointing.

Dairy Bar by Manual Co.
We can’t get enough of the adorable ice cream shack – especially with the appropriate “Live Laugh Lick” photo station off to the side. You never knew a simple swirl cone could be so photogenic. It's right NEXT DOOR to Stillwell Beer Garden.

Northwest Arm
Catch a ship or ten in the distance or pose with your love by the sea. The Arm is a must-snap spot in both the summer and winter.

Hammocks on the Halifax Waterfront
Whether you’re hanging alone or with a friend, you’ll want to capture the moment. Do the classic feet-up shot and make sure to fit in the ocean backdrop.

Vandal Doughnuts
Food photos are so not overrated, especially when it comes to doughnuts. Plus, the calories don’t count if you spend half an hour bending into the right position for the picture.

Hydrostone
Strut down the street, prop up against the stone walls, or pop in anywhere for a bite, everything in the Hydrostone is Instagrammable.

Halifax Central Library
The unique architecture makes for a solid shot both inside and out. Weave through the bookshelves or stand on the top floor and shoot down the staircase, your photo-op options are endless.

The Black Market
The multicoloured alleyway next to the shop is begging for a full-body photo. If you take home a tapestry, your room can be just as Insta-ready.

Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art. And yet here you have Nicki Brown, our beloved Social Media Manager (no, she didn't write her own description) and member of the Hospitality Team, who brings the art and wisdom of age to the charm and optimism of youth. She's a remarkably hard worker with an ability to see the beauty in people and nature; ask her about her dedication to Mother Earth or check out some of her photography, a skill which landed her an internship with National Geographic at the age of 16. She hasn't had the most conventional life, but that may be why she fits in so well at such an unconventional workplace. Her self-deprecating sense of humour makes her charming to work with, and her unwavering sense of environmental justice will probably save us all one day. You can find her dancing behind the bar or hiding behind a camera most days. So cheers to Nicki, a Robot who puts the "good" and "nature" in good-nature. "Sustainable thought of the day: get to know Nicki B."

You’ll come to snap a shot of the industrial style taproom and patio, but you’ll end up with hilarious photos with growlers and glasses. *Not a place for adulty grown-ups.

Portland Street Creperie
The food is almost too beautiful to eat, but if you post it on Instagram at least it will live forever in your heart, and in the interwebs.
