"We thought, 'Let's do all sex lyrics, but we'll do them in French so nobody knows what we're talking about,'" says Lindsay of ECT.
Two-thirds Acadian, the threesome (by stage names Lindsay Sue, Mimi Ostie and Fritzi LeBaron) sing in chiac, known as an English-tinged "brutalization" of Acadian French. They get audiences dancing by playing shrieky, quasi-Francophone punk like Kathleen Hanna's French teacher's worst nightmare.
Their drummer is a machine, but it's not due to a lack of human drummers: They're inspired by '70s and '80s French punk bands that used drum machines instead.
Former members of Les Coques et les Phoques, Be Bad, Gilbert Switzer and Windom Earle, ECT have been busy since their first show last May. With plenty of gigs, a Le Tigre cover show and a split seven-inch with Saint John's Reclusive Mute under their belt, and plans for more recordings and an upcoming eastern Canada tour, expect to see a lot more ECT.
