Anna Gilkerson and her chic fashion label deux fm prove that dressing ethically doesn’t mean dumpy (thank god), and you don’t have to break the bank either. This weekend (February 14-15, noon-5pm), deux fm is having a big sale, hosted at The Hub (1673 Barrington, second floor), the city’s first membership-based creative space. It’s a great opportunity to check out the clothes and the building.

“I was approached by The Hub about two years ago when they were first planning their venture. We discussed the challenges of managing a small ethical business in Nova Scotia and how their urban community could help me (and others like me) to be able to form a common ground so to speak, a meeting place, a 'hub,'” says Gilkerson, who is based out of Mahone Bay. “While establishing and nurturing an interconnected network of local businesses. I am a member because it allows me to have a fully equipped and professionally appealing studio in a friendly environment in the city when I need one without the costly overhead.”

Known for a youthful, feminine approach and her use of recyled/reused and environmentally sound fabric choices, some of the items on sale include Gilkerson’s sweet recycled linen/denim bikinis (lined with butter-soft soy jersey) for only $10 a piece, and classic, beautifully tailored 1950s-style organic trench coats for $80. Gilkerson is also marking down one-of-a-kind samples, some of which haven’t been produced for retail, and her remaining stock of dresses, skirts, t-shirts, tanks and bodysuits.

If you can’t make the sale, you can always find Deux FM at Biscuit General Store and and Love me, Boutique. And while you're out shopping this weekend, head north to Heroine (5575 Charles) where Laura Chenoweth is also having a sale of her lovely organic cotton casual wear.
