After 13 years, your favourite jazz band has parted ways. Amicably, but necessarily. “It’s not the kind of band where a couple of us can work on the next record,” says guitarist Ross Burns of the seven-piece. “Things were going to start moving more and more slowly. We had two options—we could go out hot on our own terms while the party was still awesome, or we could just dwindle.” Gypsophilia chose the former, with a barn-burner of a show at The Marquee October 13. Burns is emphatically thankful to the city. “It’s a straight line from the really warm, supportive, music-loving atmosphere here, to us being able to represent that as well as we could out there in the world,” he says. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Because in an uncomplicated way, it is Halifax that made this band. It’s Halifax that’s been successful, if we’ve ever been successful. Big, fuzzy hugs.”
