Apex Language and Career College: Seeking adventurers

Teaching in China was an adventure that gave Paul Meier experience to equip him for life

Paul Meier spent his 20s wanting to travel and never doing it. Teaching abroad gave him the chance to be adventurous and follow-up on his dream to travel. His experience in China opened his eyes to a world unlike the one he grew up in, and he quickly learned that he was participating in a culture much different from what he was used to.

"Growing up in a western country, you assume everyone thinks the same way as you, but you go to China and learn that they have a different outlook on life," says Paul.

Apex Language and Career College—ALCC—is recruiting the outgoing, the adventurous and the passionate travellers to become teachers in China. Whether it's to get a taste of teaching or if, like Paul, you've always wanted to travel, then this is the right start for you.

Apex welcomes perspective teachers coming from any backgrounds; coming in with a degree is enough, and Apex provides training for the rest. The students abroad are eager to learn, and are incredibly respectful to foreign teachers.

Paul offers some advice to aspiring teachers abroad: "To be a teacher, you have to be a certain type of person. You're in front of people, performing, and you're completely responsible for your class. This equips you for everything else in life," says Paul. If you've just finished university, he adds, this is a great start to your career and gives you confidence through the rest of your life.
