Re: “Lucky Cat Barbershop opens its doors in Dartmouth

That there is LIFE in Dartmouth amazes me; now they have haircuts? Mind. Blown.

Re: “Friendly Divas wants to buy 500 Diva Cups before 2018

Hi! I wrote the article so I'll try to explain.
These organizations like Bryony, Phoenix and Adsum also have long and short-term housing programs. So, while the cups aren't a great option for people living in shelters (and often don't have permanent housing and access to private washrooms to clean the cups), there are many women and families living in longer-term facilities who can use the cups and greatly appreciate the donations! Hope this helps.

Re: “Friendly Divas wants to buy 500 Diva Cups before 2018

I read first that, "She has made arrangements to donate the products to several organizations across the city, including Bryony House, the YWCA, Phoenix Youth and Adsum for Women & Children."

Further down the article, I read: "For people in the shelter they aren't the right answer, tampons were more the product of choice. They dont always have access to a washroom easily to be able to clean things and to carry it around on a regular basis. So, they needed something easy and disposable."

From what I understand Bryony, Phoenix and Adsum are all women's shelters.

So she is raising money to buy and donate this product for women in the shelter system KNOWING the product is NOT the right choice for these women.

WTF? Did I miss something? Can anyone please use logic to explain it; like using real logic?

Re: “Reality Check: The Business of Virtual Reality

I'm happy for this success story. My experience with CUA was much different and consisted of CUA talking out of both sides of their mouths and not abiding by their own small business brochures that they are so proud of.

Tara is 100 percent right, and fully distills the feels I was looking for into a very tidy pile of all the right words.

Re: “The end of The Oxford

An excellent piece by Ms. Thorne. I will long remember the "pre-show" of an eager group of seniors (including some in motorized scooters) as they made their way into the Oxford at the screening of MAUDIE that I attended. And then there was the elderly woman who ascended to the near empty balcony (because we always arrived early). She took one look at my partner (again visualize the empty balcony), semi-glowered and announced: "YOU'RE IN MY SEAT."

But she soon chilled and sat in the seat next to my partner. Worried that her husband had not yet arrived (stuck in the logjam in the lobby), the woman started to fret that he'd been in an accident or had somehow otherwise been harmed. My partner reassured her that he was probably ok and by the time he arrived, the woman and my partner had become "fast friends."

And then there was the younger woman near us in the balcony who kept getting up (with the flashlight activated on her cellphone) to help many seniors find a seat in the by then darkened theatre. For sure one of the best movie-going experiences I've ever had. The atmosphere was festive and caring. A true community gathering.

A shame that the Oxford is closing. And too bad that TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is not among the classics that will screen as the curtain comes down. It's a superb film with a timeless message about truth, honour, courage and dignity.

Re: “The Oxford theatre will soon close

The Titanic, what an awful movie to close with ... a premonition of what will happen to the building.

Re: “Get on board with Roll The Dice

You're such a wiener. Why create an issue where none exists? If she wrote something relevant to race and you disagree (or agree) then fine ... but why even make a comment like this? If you have something worthwhile to say then say it, don't be a wiener.

Re: “Dartmouth's answer to the Casper bed

"The mattress has interchangeable layers and a removable cover thats 'bed bug-proof, waterproof, dust allergen-proof.'

To be clear, this removable cover is an additional $85 - $100 EXTRA (depending on size)... it is not included as implied in the article.
