50 Cent

December 14 at the Halifax Metro Centre

Published December 15, 2005.50 CentDecember 14 at the Halifax Metro CentreAfter pumping the marketing machine with a preview for his film Get Rich or Die Tryin' and a clip reel that showed A-list celebs name-dropping him, Curtis Jackson quickly confronted his politician critics with what else — a hail of repetitive recorded gunshots that put comedy rim shots to shame. Throughout the night, Fiddy made sure to stoke his beef with former protégé The Game and recently jailed Lil' Kim; gave kudos to Canadian pimpin', followed by calling women bitches and later encouraged everyone to "Smoke, get drunk and fuck" with his arm around a little girl easily under 10 years old. All of this happened amidst pyrotechnics, a show-stealing turn from G-Unit member Lloyd Banks, an appearance 1998's best rapper Mase and more and more gunshots. Lasting over one and a half hours with an extended encore, there was no denying the entertainment value of the show. There simply was not a better place to be to see what a living hip-hop cliché looks and acts like. And the crowd of 8,000 pre-teen girls and wannabe gangstas screamed while gunshots rang out.
