Four Rwandan artists are bringing their art to Canada for the first time in an exhibition celebrating “a creative and hopeful Rwanda.” Emerging fashion designer Bill ‘coco’ Ruterana, illustrator Jean Yves Masengo and painters Antonio Nshimiyimana and Theogene Kabalisa are artists who survived the 1994 genocide, but who hope to shift the focus from their country’s history to their art’s future. Halifax artist Kevin Lewis is the show’s curator, and FRED donated the show space, while raising money to bring the four artists to Halifax. Meet some of the artists at the opening reception Monday, October 26 from 7-9pm, where Coco will show his work with a fashion show akin to the one he hosted at Nocturne.. –Holly Gordon
