Are we really just friends?

Posted By on Mon, May 27, 2019 at 2:47 PM

I like you so much. But I'm so incredibly scared to tell you because I don't think you feel the same. Instead, I'll keep low-key flirting with you, tell myself I don't like you that much, suppress all these feelings and probably die alone—while still laughing at your jokes.

Good Samaritans still exist

Posted By on Mon, May 27, 2019 at 2:40 PM

I lost my wallet and keys in the Walmart parking lot. I was frantic looking everywhere for them. Thank you to the old man who picked them up and gave them to a bus driver. And thank you to the bus driver who took them and drove to my home after his shift to personally return them to me. You guys are the best, whoever you are! I hope you read this and know how much you are appreciated. It's wonderful to know there are honest, caring folks out there. I offer you my heartfelt thanks. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It could be worse

Posted By on Tue, May 21, 2019 at 3:40 PM

I so much feel better about myself every time I read the Love The Way We Bitch section and see so many people complaining about the most mundane and insignificant things. Life is pretty good when you stop to appreciate the little things instead of complain about them. So here's to all the folks in this town who have helped me (and many others) do just that. You're swell.

Magnolias forever

Posted By on Tue, May 21, 2019 at 3:36 PM

Whoever you are, owners of the house on Maple Street in Dartmouth with that gorgeous magnolia tree: Keep up the good work!

That tree is one of the nicest things I see on my drive to and from work. It makes spring time beautiful, especially with all this chilly weather we have had this (non) spring.

Kind gestures

Posted By on Tue, May 14, 2019 at 3:53 PM

On Friday, I was waiting in line in uniform with my work partner at a well loved, local coffee shop. As it came time to tap my card and pay, a very kind stranger placed his hand out and insisted on purchasing our drinks. I informed him that I was actually buying beans for my own machine, too, and that he did not have to make such a generous gesture. He continued to insist and thanked us greatly for all that we do. We do not frequently get recognition in my profession unless people need our services (and I hope you never do). Although I thanked him profusely in store, I would like to extend my gratitude and express how happy recognition made me and my coworkers feel. Thank you sir in the grey plaid shirt.

Mom with ocean-coloured hair

Posted By on Tue, May 14, 2019 at 3:50 PM

You were on the bus with six—count em, six —children under the age of five. All so cute, all so well behaved, and it's obvious why: Their attentive, patient, sweet mother with ocean blue hair and glasses. I have never seen anyone manage so many children so flawlessly and with so much grace and compassion. All six children were so sweet and sat back in their chairs just like their momma had asked. And momma was always listening, smiling and talking with them. You could tell how much she loves them and how much they love her. Coming from a broken family, nothing is more beautiful to me and I couldn't stop smiling at your beautiful family and your beautiful soul. Thank you for being so awesome.

Best of all

Posted By on Tue, May 14, 2019 at 3:37 PM

You were so wrong for me; so serious and intellectual in a way that made me question my own intelligence. We had very different interests and you were emotionally unavailable. God knows I have moved on and that I don’t think you could have ever really made me happy, but I will never forget the sex. It was easily the best I have ever had. I have tried to block that memory out but you and your freaking mouth haunt me. Hope you find someone to really love who really appreciates it.

Thank you for being a considerate toddler owner

Posted By on Thu, May 2, 2019 at 12:20 PM

I was in the movie theatre with you the other day, me and about a hundred other people all excited to see how the Avengers ended (no spoilers). Your kid was making a lot of noise during one of Iron Man's most important post-fight scenes in the movie, but after about a minute of not being able to quiet your little one, you removed him/her from the theatre. The whole theatre heard the wee human's 'Mama no!' in protest of being evicted. I'm sorry you probably missed part if not all of the end, but thank you for being considerate of everybody else, and I hope you get an opportunity to catch up on the movie.

Cure for my landlocked blues...

Posted By on Tue, Apr 30, 2019 at 1:21 PM

Halifax is the best cure for my landlocked blues. Like many, I've moved west for work and made a good life. In a few weeks, though, I'll be back for a short visit. Point Pleasant Park, the Citadel, Spring Garden and the market are where I'll be first. The salt -inged air, friendly faces and fun is what I'll try to soak up most in My Nova Scotia Home.

CSA all the way

Posted By on Tue, Apr 30, 2019 at 1:18 PM

Every week, every single week, for the past four months (and counting!) you take time from what I can only assume is an incredibly busy farm life to come into the city. You hand-deliver not only your organic produce, but also your eggs, fruit and pasture-raised meats to my community. Everything is grown with such love—I swear I can taste it in every bite. My family and I wait for our box of goodies to roll in from Port Williams to Bedford. Opening our share of vegetables every week is beyond exciting. Thank you for taking such good care of the land you grow on, the soil you nurture and the families you feed.

Girls are the best

Posted By on Tue, Apr 23, 2019 at 1:51 PM

A few weeks ago I was dancing and singing at The Seahorse and I keep going back to a moment of bliss where you leaned into me and we belted out a song together. It felt nice to be noticed by you. I needed it. Thanks for the flirty green garland.

Happiest of birthdays

Posted By on Tue, Apr 23, 2019 at 1:50 PM

I miss you. I never thought my daughter wouldn't know her auntie, one of my favourite people. Every time I listen to Raffi or Fred Penner or watch some silly kids' show on television, you are still (and will probably always be) the person I think about. I think about you a lot outside of children's programming, too. I wish I knew how to fix this. Happy birthday, my beautiful friend.

Humanity

Posted By on Mon, Apr 15, 2019 at 2:13 PM

It took me a while to get around to this, but I want to say thank you. Thank you to all the kind people who stopped when my car broke down on the corner of Woodlawn Road and Mount Edward Road in Dartmouth a few weeks ago. Although I had it under control and was just waiting for a tow truck, at least two strangers pulled over to make sure I was OK. I appreciate it. It just shows that humanity does still exist, between all the stares and rude looks of passer-bys. Thank you and I hope your days all go well.
