Gold Winner Gus the tortoise
Silver Winner Agave Plant
Bronze Winner Fat Apollo
The Museum of Natural History’s beloved mascot didn’t walk away with an Order of Nova Scotia award this year, despite our best efforts advocating on his behalf in a cover story back in March. The adored gopher tortoise will instead have to make do with a slightly-less prestigious first-place finish as Halifax’s Best Local Character. After 75 years delighting generations of museum visitors, though, Gus really needs no awards to prove his value to this city. Slow and steady wins the race to our hearts.
