“Holy crap,” says Stoo Metz on hearing about his gold for Best Photographer. “I expected bronze, maybe.” Last year’s third-place win also shocked the chronicler of Halifax’s best events, who only quit his day job and jumped full-time into photography in 2014 with his venture, Click Productions. He blames the shock on a lack of competitive spirit. “I guess I just see so many other photographers in the city as better than myself. I’ve never bothered to say, ’Please vote for me.’” Vote they did, regardless. Must be his way with people. “I just see myself as someone who takes the time to get to know everyone.”
