“I think we actually became the number one account for a bunch of local breweries and that makes me hugely proud,” says Chris Reynolds, who along with Laura MacDonald and Andrew Connell owns the perpetually packed beer bar Stillwell. “We dreamed of that before we opened—it’s a dream come true.” Two of the reasons Haligonians may have voted the Barrington Street watering hole the Best Bar are its beer and its Graeme Ruppel-designed snack menu (which also earned it nods for Best Beer Selection and Best Fries)—both of which the team is passionate about keeping interesting, inspired and challenging. “Honestly for a lot of people it is kind of work, its work to wade through stuff,” says Reynolds of the research involved in keeping Stillwell’s taps awesome. “For us it’s our lives. We live and breathe this stuff.”
