Best Community Project

Common Roots Urban Farm

Gold Winner Hope Blooms

Silver Winner Common Roots Urban Farm

Bronze Winner Dartmouth Carousel

Sometimes, on really bad days, I watch the clip of Dragon’s Den where north end Halifax’s group of young community gardeners and entrepreneurs, Hope Blooms, wins four times the amount of money they asked for. (They even wooed meanie supreme Kevin O’Leary!) It’s moving, inspiring and it’ll make you beam with pride for youngins working their butts of for this Best of Halifax award-winning community project. Hope Blooms continues to blossom, cranking out tasty salad dressings (profits go back into the organization, and into a scholarship fund), awaiting its newer, larger greenhouse (construction is underway) and setting an example for all of us.
