With a menu full of original drinks, it’s no wonder The Middle Spoon snagged this year’s gold for Best Cocktail. Owner Lacey Doherty attributes much of the success to bar manager Jenner Cormier, who creates all the drink recipes himself. One of his most popular creations? Beer cocktails, which combine ingredients like sparkling wine, strawberry beer, gin and fruit to create unique flavours. “Tastes like candy,” says Doherty, who’s looking to offer a more sophisticated late-night experience to Haligonians, “Some people go out for a beer and wings, we want people to go out for cocktails,” she says. Honoured by her first gold, Doherty adds that to her beloved customers, “The Coast is their bible.” Aww.
