This year Adept Tattoos shook things up by taking out longstanding gold winner Utility for highest honours as Best Tattoo/Piercing joint. Both shops can be found on Quinpool Road, since Utility moved from its Blowers Street location in 2010, but Adept’s award-winning artist Amber Thorpe thinks voters appreciate her studio’s dedication to the craft of tattooing. “The artists are fully dedicated to what they do every day, and we try to progress our learning curve as much as we can,” she says. “We’re trying to learn as much as we can, so maybe that helps keep us on top. Or maybe people just like our personalities.” We wonder, why can’t it be both?
