It’s interesting that all this year’s winners are women. Gold winner Dawn Sloane gets the most press for the various development battles downtown, but her most dedicated work is addressing the day-to-day concerns of residents. Sloane is forever taking university classes and reading books to expand her knowledge of government, and always brings a fresh perspective to council. Silver winner Sue Uteck is starting to become something of an institution in the south end, and knows city budgets inside and out. Bronze winner Jennifer Watts is only in her first term, but already has established herself as a force to be reckoned with.
