Oxford Theatre

Seventy-four years old and still the favourite cinema in town, so kudos to Empire Theatres for giving the place a facelift this summer, with fresh paint perking up the facade. Known primarily as an art house, it’s the perfect room to watch a new Woody Allen picture (Midnight in Paris did gangbusters there this summer) or distinguished Oscar bait (The King’s Speech had people lining up around the block for weeks).

A reader loves a big, single screen cinema. Don't we all?
“How this little Art Deco jewel has dodge the wrecker ball of some corrupt Toronto condo developer continues to amaze and please me.”

First Runner-up: Empire Theatres Park Lane
