Best Activist Organization

Ecology Action Centre

In a year when the environment found its way to forefront of concerns for pretty much anyone with a conscience, it makes a lot of sense that the EAC would be at the top of Coast readers’ list. The EAC has become the de facto rep for sustainable living in the province, this past summer employing 35, and counting our poll’s Best Activist winner Susanna Fuller in its number. “Our success comes when things become mainstream,” she says, and by any measure, much of what they do is becoming just that. With seven issue committees dealing with everything from transportation to energy to sustainable food choices to coastal and wilderness protection, EAC is essential for our survival.

First runner up: Halifax Coalition Against Poverty
