The favourite of Coast readers in 2004, Attica maintains its title as Halifax’s best furniture store in 2005. Why? It might have something to do with their unofficial motto, adopted from William Morris, leader of the Arts and Crafts movement: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” Or maybe it’s the way that Suzanne Saul, who owns Attica with her husband Chris Joyce, chooses the merchandise. “I look for clean and simple design and quality construction, but mostly I look for an emotional response. If my eye settles on it and my heart quickens and I think ‘Oh my god, I have to have it,’ then I know,” Saul says. Believe us, Suzanne—we know, too. 1652 Granville, 423-2557,
