The history of the donair is relatively short (compared to the sandwich, say) and is already shrouded in mystery and controversy—but most folks agree the donair in Canada started in Bedford in the early 1970s. Robert’s opened in 1986 and owner Malik Badour says one reason his donairs are so good is that the same people have been making them all along. “People like the taste,” he says, “plus they’re a good size.” Coast readers know finger lickin’ isn’t just for chicken.
