Sidney Crosby

The hype over Sidney Crosby was huge in anticipation of his rookie season with the Rimouski Oceanic. Crosby has been attracting attention for years now, since his midget triple-A days, and even drawing favourable comparisons to the Great One, with Gretzky himself publicly stating that Crosby might be the man to break some of his NHL records (he will be eligible for the NHL in 2005). So it was no surprise that the 16-year-old Cole Harbour native was the first overall pick in this year’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft. So far it seems the hype was all deserved: Sidney Crosby has been leading the league with 40 points, including 18 goals, in 19 games. No wonder you’re all carrying a torch for Crosby to carry the torch.

Runner-up: Steve Giles (canoeing)
