What chamber to choose

Scotia Festival of Music director Chris Wilcox suggests a few choice shows for the chamber music festival.

Chris Wilcox is driving to get some thumbtacks. "That's what us high-powered administrators do best," he says with a laugh. Wilcox is the managing and artistic director of the Scotia Festival of Music and has been working with it since its beginnings in 1980. "People no longer have to go to Europe to listen to chamber music," says the man who hasn't missed a concert in the festival's 31 years. "This festival is as good a chamber festival as there is anywhere." The draw of international guest artists speaks for Wilcox's enthusiasm. Asked who some of the highlights are for him, Wilcox pauses a second then suggests Matt Heinowitz's solo recital in the Music Room. "He'd sell out Carnegie Hall," Wilcox says, "so to have Matt playing a solo recital in that place, it's real chamber music." Taking another moment to think, Wilcox adds: "There will not be a better violin recital than on June 7 with Novachek. It's as good as it gets."
