Watching You Think | Music | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

The Mideastern beauty who is Leonard Cohen’s companion steps forward. Cohen helps out with production and illustration. Her singing style is somewhat talky, dramatic in the manner of early Springsteen. The songs are all her own, save “Romeo and Juliet” by Mark Knopfler. Mixed clearly above her band, Neema is not above adapting nursery rhymes. It’s no surprise that a glimpse into the inner life of a major poet’s muse reveals an aspiring poet. Sweeping lines like, “We’re clinging to a world that’s already in the past” from “Sidewalk” leave Watching You Think more compelling lyrically than musically, not unlike her buddy.
