Union of the Snake

Hardcore band with a strong Halifax rock pedigree.

Coming from a strong Halifax rock pedigree, hardcore outfit Union of the Snake played its first show at May’s Long Live the Queen festival. Made of Chad Peck (Noyes Records, Kestrels, The Medium Mood), Jim MacAlpine (VKNGS, North of America) and Dave Kaufman (VKNGS), the band formed out of “boredom, sharing a practice space, and disillusion,” according to MacAlpine. With VKNGS taking things easy after two members became fathers, MacAlpine and Kaufman decided to form a baby-free band, playing “late ’90s/ early 2000s mid-tempo hardcore.”

The band waited six months between their first practices and first show because MacAlpine, who’s played in dozens of Halifax bands over the years, had never played drums before. They’re looking at playing a few dates around the Maritimes over the summer and have recorded a few songs so far for a seven-inch with an anticipated early fall release date.
