The Black Keys

El Camino (Nonesuch)

Since the Keys’ self- produced releases of the early ’00s, the band has become more mainstream, and with each new release comes a new set of instruments for guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney to play with. El Camino may be their most varied album to date, with chiming bells, organs and wacky guitar solos employing heavily distorted tremolo and overtly cheesy Talk Box pedal, but that doesn’t mean it’s memorable. With Danger Mouse back as producer, this album sounds the same as the past two he’s worked on with the Keys, and doesn’t add anything exciting.
