Nova Scotia’s longest-running folk festival, the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, celebrates their 24th year, and you are officially a punk if you don't give them their propers. Taking place in (doy) Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (UNESCO world heritage site, don't you know) on August 6-9, audiences will be treated to a folk smorgasbord including acclaimed songwriter and producer Stephen Fearing; award-winning, East Coast singer-songwriter Lennie Gallant and folk-blues-jazz trio The Marigolds, featuring Canadian Maple Blues Award winner Suzie Vinnick, multiple JUNO award-winner Jim Byrnes; a cappella Aboriginal women's trio, Asani; Quebec-based traditional duo Bette and Wallet; multi-instrumentalist Heather Kelday; Appalachian specialist Jeff Davis; experimental folk artist Kev Corbett; Yukon’s roots artist Kim Beggs; children’s performer Mr. Mark; Montreal bluegrass collective Notre Dame de Grass; New Zealand’s eclectic world-roots music trio Pacific Curls; sea shanty singers Pint and Dale; Austin roots-blues group porterdavis; old-time high-stepping duo Sheesham and Lotus; sisters in music Tannis Slimmon, Laura Bird and Chris MacLean; the multi-talented Steve Dawson; medieval influenced Swamp Ward Orchestra; Newfoundland folk explosion The Dardanelles; Celtic traditionalists The New Tune Society; folk sisters The Nields; fiddle-driven The Sarah Burnell Band; and Halifax’s lively old-time Smokin’ Contra Band, winner of the 2009 Folk Fiesta! competition.
